The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has long been a foremost promoter of sport in Australia.
From hosting the first tour by an English cricket team in 1869 to drawing up the first rules for Victorian (now Australian) football, the MCC has a proud and storied history.Today, the MCC is Australia’s oldest and largest sporting club with 150,000 members with a further 188,000 on the waiting list. The MCC has hundreds of participants across 14 sports and a library with the biggest collection of sporting publications in the world.
The MCC’s principal public role, however, remains the progressive management and development of one of this country’s greatest assets – the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The iconic stadium attracts more than 3 million visitors annually from all around the world for live sport and entertainment, a visit to the Australian Sports Museum or an MCG Tour.
