The MCG will host 46 matches as part of the 2020 AFL Premiership Season plus matches in the AFL Finals Series and the 2020 AFL Grand Final.
The traditional start to the premiership season commences with reigning premiers Richmond hosting Carlton on Thursday March 19 at 7.25pm at the MCG.Richmond will host the GWS GIANTS in a 2019 AFL Grand Final rematch in Round 7, Saturday May 2, at 1.45pm.
Each of the AFL’s 18 clubs will play at least once at the MCG in 2020, with Collingwood and Richmond playing the most matches with 14 each through a mixture of home and away matches. Melbourne will play 13 matches at the MCG, with the club being the home side on 10 occasions.
Across the Easter long weekend, the MCG will host a match on Easter Saturday between Richmond and the Adelaide Crows and on Easter Monday when the Geelong Cats host Hawthorn.
Round 23 remains a floating fixture, to be determined late in the season, with the MCG’s only match coming on Saturday August 22 with Collingwood hosting the Gold Coast SUNS.
The 2020 AFL Grand Final at the MCG is scheduled for Saturday September 26.
The MCG will host matches in each of the AFL Premiership Season’s 23 rounds, including:
• Three Thursday night matches (Rounds 1, 2 and 3)
• Six Friday night matches (Rounds 6, 9, 11, 13, 17 and 18)
• Two Saturday night matches (Rounds 9 and 10)
• Two Monday public holiday matches (Rounds 4 and 12)
• Five rounds of triple header matches (Rounds 3, 6, 9, 11 and 18)
As the home of the blockbuster match, the MCG will host:
• The first match of the 2020 AFL Premiership Season, Round 1 – Richmond v Carlton
• ANZAC Day Eve, Round 6 – Melbourne v Richmond
• ANZAC Day, Round 6 – Collingwood v Essendon (moving to a twilight timeslot for the first time with a match start time of 3.20pm)
• Dreamtime at the ‘G in Sir Doug Nicolls Round, Round 10 – Essendon v Richmond
• Big Freeze at the ‘G on the Queen’s Birthday public holiday, Round 12 – Melbourne v Collingwood
