The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), as manager of the MCG, is pleased to confirm that MCC members will now receive free access to the Australian Sports Museum, in time for the Melbourne Football Club’s 2021 AFL Premiership Cup arriving at the Museum for a special activation.
MCC members had previously received a 20 per cent discount to access the Australian Sports Museum, however the Club is delighted to waive ticket costs for members from the Museum’s public re-opening on Saturday November 20.
The member offer will be live until March 31, 2022.
The Australian Sports Museum at the MCG is the one stop shop for celebrating sport in Australian society. It houses memorabilia and artefacts from some of Australia’s greatest sporting moments.
Manager of the Australian Sports Museum, Jed Smith said the ticket fee waive was a small gesture for the MCC members who have had their visitation to the MCG impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have a world class sports museum, that really hasn’t had the chance to shine since it’s re-opening as the Australian Sports Museum back in February last year,” Mr Smith said.
“It’s a small way of saying ‘thanks’ to our loyal members, but we want everyone to come and see this amazing new Museum.”
The public re-opening of the Australian Sports Museum will be preceded by Melbourne Football Club members getting a first exclusive glimpse at the 2021 AFL Premiership Cup inside the Australian Sports Museum on Friday November 19.
The activation, the first leg of the Melbourne Football Club’s official national Premiership Cup Tour, will see Melbourne members and their guests have the opportunity to take photos with the Cup, inside the Museum.
Melbourne Football Club members will be given a unique link to access the free ticket offer that will require them to enter their membership number. They will also be offered an opportunity to bring guests at the regular ticketing price of entry to the Museum.
To assist with capacity management of the Australian Sports Museum, tickets will be capped in session times of 10.00am-12.30pm, 12.30pm-3.00pm, 3.00pm-5.30pm and 5.30pm-8.00pm on Friday November 19.
The activation will remain in place on Saturday November 20 and Sunday November 21, with these two dates also open to the general public. Pre-booking within timed activation sessions will again be required. The Cup will be back in the Australian Sports Museum on Saturday December 4 and will stay at the MCG for the proposed Melbourne Football Club Premiership celebration on Sunday December 5.
Mr Smith said the Australian Sports Museum was thrilled to bookend the first leg of the Melbourne Football Club’s National Premiership Cup Tour.
“We’re really excited to work with Melbourne and offer their members, our members and the general public a wonderful opportunity to come face-to-face with a piece of history,” Mr Smith said.
“This Melbourne Premiership will go down in Australian sport as one of the great dam wall-busters and for the die-hard Dees fans who waited 57 years, we’re really proud to launch this activation and be part of a national Cup Tour.
“The Demons fans are among the most parochial and after the recent lockdown prevented them from sharing in the success at the MCG on Grand Final Day, we hope this is the next best thing.”
