The MCC Hockey Section is aiming to put an interrupted two years of junior hockey behind them when they host the Junior Summer Academy starting late November.
And it will see the MCC Hockey Section’s Elwood College facility back to use in full swing, after its completion in 2020 and use in early 2021.The Junior Summer Academy is four-week program for boys and girls aged six years and over, with playing levels from beginners through to experienced players; all children are welcome to come along and join in the fun.
The program sessions are on Sunday mornings from November 21 to December 12 and it’s absolutely free to join in.
MCC Hockey Section Juniors Chair, Vince Stranges said there was no better time for kids to take their first steps into hockey, regardless of prior experience.
“The lockdowns are behind us, and given the kids have been wedded to technology for the best part of the last 18 months, it’s time to get them outside,” Mr Stranges said.
“We’ve got these programs designed for new players needing an introduction to hockey, through to those who are looking to build on their core skills and introduce more advanced skills for the more experienced players.
“Plus there’s some specialist goalkeeper programs available, so the sessions are really covering all skills and techniques.
“We’re delighted to have a long list of great coaches coming down to hang out too including our Premier League Men's and Women's team coaches. We also have ex-Hockeyroo, Georgia Nanscawen and we look forward to having Jillaroos and Australian under-21 Women’s coach, Stacia Strain coming down too.”
Equipment will be provided, all you will need to bring is a pair of runners and a water bottle.
