The Round 1 fixture for the 2023 AFL Premiership Season has been confirmed with the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to host four blockbuster matches across the weekend from Thursday March 16.
The traditional season opener between Richmond and Carlton returns to the Thursday evening time slot and is expected to draw large crowds as it headlines four days of action at the ‘G.Reigning Premiers Geelong will play Collingwood on Friday March 17 at 7.40pm in a Qualifying Final rematch that is sure to thrill after the Cats beat the Pies by just six points in their last meeting.
The MCG will host its third consecutive night match on Saturday March 18 when Melbourne take on the Western Bulldogs at 7.25pm.
Rivals Hawthorn and Essendon will then round out the MCG’s Round 1 fixture in the 3.20pm time slot on Sunday March 19.
