MCC Foundation showcases its support of the new 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup docu-series

The MCC Foundation is delighted to support today’s release of the upcoming Australian Women’s Cricket Team docu-series, The Record in partnership with Australian production house, Her Films and Cricket Australia.

The Record, produced by Her Films and founded by Nicole Minchin and Angela Pippos, follows the Australian Women’s Cricket Team’s dramatic 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign all the way to a history-making final at the MCG.

It includes the heroic exploits on the field, and the equally daring off-field campaign to “fill the MCG” for the Final on International Women’s Day 2020.

The two-part production has been supported with a financial contribution by the MCC Foundation, and launches on Amazon Prime Video this Friday, February 12.

It features interviews with MCC Foundation Chair and Club Vice-President Sally Macindoe, MCC Chief Executive Stuart Fox, alongside some of the stars of the Australian Women’s Cricket Team such as Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry, as well as international team captains Heather Knight (England), Harmanpreet Kaur (India), Dane van Niekerk (South Africa) and Sornnarin Tippoch (Thailand).

MCC Foundation Chair, Sally Macindoe, said the decision to financially support the production reflected the commitment to empower women’s sport from the grassroots level to the elite.

“The MCC Foundation is delighted to have been involved with the making of The Record, which is a wonderful showcase of the famous night in March last year when the MCG broke new ground with the largest attendance recorded at a standalone women’s sporting event in Australia,” Ms Macindoe said.

“It’s a moment that should be celebrated for years to come as a mark of what’s possible through sport and in particular the evolution of women’s sport, so we’re pleased The Record is the vehicle to do just that.

“The MCC Foundation wishes to congratulate Nicole Minchin and Angela Pippos on a fantastic production and the wonderful amplification it will achieve through Amazon Prime Video internationally. It captures the essence of the tournament, the history-making night of the Final at the MCG and is set to inspire generations of young girls and women.”

Her Films
producers, Nicole Minchin and Angela Pippos said it was a formality for them to capture the stories behind the tournament.

"The moment we heard about the bold plan to fill the MCG on International Women’s Day 2020 we knew we had to be a part of it,” Ms Minchin and Ms Pippos said.

“Here was a seismic opportunity to shift the sporting landscape. As documentary filmmakers with a passion for equality and social change, this story was irresistible.

“The tournament, and the quest for the record, threw up more drama than we could ever have imagined and we couldn’t be more excited to share The Record with the world.”

Cricket Australia Interim CEO Nick Hockley said The Record is a production that the governing body is extremely proud of and excited to see come to life.

“The documentation of Australia’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign has given us the opportunity to reflect on what was a monumental occasion for cricket,” Mr Hockley said.

“I would like to thank everyone who played their part in bringing both the event and this documentary to life. Reliving this special moment in time will hopefully inspire the next generation of cricketers, both girls and boys, to aspire to play on the biggest stage of all.”

The Record is an Amazon Prime Video acquisition and will be released to 28 countries on Friday February 12.
