MCC creates history with win over Marylebone CC at Lord's

History has been created with the Melbourne Cricket Club beating Marylebone CC for the first time at Lord’s.

Melbourne’s eight-wicket Duckworth-Lewis victory in a match reduced to 44 overs for each side because of rain was also the first time since 1995 that the away team has won the biennial 50-over match between the two world-famous MCC’s.

The victory was set up by a devastating spell of bowling by former Victorian rookie and Melbourne paceman Jackson Koop, who claimed 5-19 from his nine overs.

The home side slumped to 6-39 before recovering the post 134. Jack McNamara (2-8) and Mark Dwyer (2-24) also chipped in an impressive bowling performance.

Melbourne cruised in its run chase thanks to a devastating knock by captain Sam Harper, who made a quick-fire 72. The Victorian and Melbourne Renegades wicketkeeper was well supported by opener James Billington (48 not out) as Melbourne raced to victory inside 20 overs.

Matches between Melbourne and Marylebone commenced in 1993.
