New Just Walk Out technology by Amazon has been introduced at the MCG to support fans in getting their favourite food and beverage items faster.



The NEW MCC Express Bar will be located in the Members' Reserve near Gate 2, Level 1 Section 43.

MCC Express is powered by Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology, whose technology enhances the fan experience by enabling checkout-free shopping using AI, computer vision, and sensor fusion. The MCC Express Bar will allow sports fans and concert go-ers the opportunity to buy their favourite food and beverage items faster than ever before.

How to use MCC Express

  1. Simply tap or insert your card at the entry gate to enter the MCC Express outlet.
  2. Now it’s time to choose the food and drinks you want. You’ll only be charged for the items you keep, so if you pick something up and change your mind, you won’t be charged for it.
  3. If you’re purchasing an alcoholic beverage, make sure you open it up before leaving the outlet.
  4. Once you’ve made your choice, simply walk out and get back to the action. There’s no checkout, no queue and no worries.

Entering as a family or group? Tap one card on entry and then walk in together.

When you enter MCC Express, a pre-authorisation amount is placed on your card to confirm you have adequate funds to shop. Once your transaction is confirmed, you will only be charged for what you have purchased. Depending on your banking institution, it may take up to several days for your purchase to appear in your transaction history and when it does, it will be for the total amount of your purchase.

Q: Where can I find the MCC Express Outlet at the MCG?

A: MCC Express Bar – Members' Reserve, near Gate 2 on Level 1 behind Section 43.


Q: How do I shop at the MCC Express outlet?

A: It’s as simple as TAP. SHOP. GO! Patrons tap or insert a credit or debit card to enter an MCC Express outlet and then just pick the items they want. The AI software automatically identifies the items picked or put back - using overhead cameras and sensors - and creates a virtual shopping cart for each shopper. The patron can put the items in their pocket, bag or simply carry them. Head towards the exit and upon leaving the outlet, the purchases are automatically charged to the card used on entry.


Q: How do I enter the store?

A: Tap or insert your credit or debit card at the turnstile card reader. Wanting to pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay in your smart device’s wallet? Activate as you normally would and tap it at the MCC Express entry gate.


Q: What types of payments are accepted for entry into the MCC Express outlet?

A: Accepted payment methods include: Visa or Mastercard, via mobile payment apps (e.g. Google Pay or Apple Pay) or physical credit/debit cards.

Amex & MCC Plus Eftpos card are not accepted at MCC Express outlets.


Q: What happens if I change my mind and put something back on the shelf?

A: The advanced AI technology uses overhead cameras and sensors to understand what patrons are picking up and/or putting back on the shelves. If you put something back, the AI system will detect it and remove that item from your virtual shopping cart, and you won’t be charged for it.


Q: Can I enter with my family or a group of friends?

A: Yes. For instance, families and friends can enter on one tapped card and the items associated with the shopping group will be charged to the card used on entry. The individual patron who taps their card for entry will be the one who is charged for the entire shopping trip.


Q: What happens if I pick up an item and pass it to someone outside the group I have entered with?

A: Please do not pass items to other customers who are not part of the group of friends or family you entered the outlet with on the one card.


Q: How does MCC Express know what to charge me?

A: The advanced AI technology uses overhead cameras and sensors to understand what patrons are picking up and putting back on the shelves. Once a patron has completed their shop and is heading towards the exit gate, their shopping tally is totalled and charged to the card they used on entry.


Q: How do I pay?

A: Your card is verified on entry - either by tapping or inserting it at the entry gate. When you exit the store, the card you entered with will be automatically charged.


Q: What types of items will be available in the MCC Express outlet?

A: In the MCC Express beverage outlet, patrons will find a range of alcoholic drinks in cans including beer, wine, pre-mixed beverages, water and snack options. Guests under the age of 18 are not permitted access to the MCC Express Bar.


Q: How much is the pre-authorisation charge?

A: A pre-authorisation charge is placed as a hold to ensure you have adequate funds to make a purchase.

Your card’s issuing bank is responsible for promptly releasing the pre-authorisation amount the time this takes is dependent on your bank.

MCC Express Bar has a pre-authorisation of $20.00.


Q: Does the pre-authorisation get held each time I enter?

A: Yes, each time you enter MCC Express, a new pre-authorisation hold is placed on your card.


Q: Why do I see a pending charge on my card once I’ve visited an MCC Express outlet?

A: When you enter an MCC Express outlet, a pre-authorisation amount is placed on your card. This confirms you have adequate funds to make a purchase. When you exit the MCG Express outlet, the system sends the actual purchase amount to your bank institution. Your card’s issuing bank is responsible for promptly releasing the pre-authorisation amount the time this takes is dependent on your bank.


Q: How do I get my receipt?

A: You can access your receipt by scanning the QR code on exit of an MCC Express outlet or by visiting the receipt portal.


Q: My receipt is wrong, and I require a refund?

A: Firstly, check your receipt via the receipt portal to ensure the items you bought are correct.

Q: Is my face captured on camera?

A: As per the terms and conditions of entry to major events at the MCC, your face and likeness will be captured on camera for safety and security purposes. When choosing to use the MCC Express outlet, we do NOT use facial recognition as part of the checkout-free experience. Movements inside the store are tracked via overhead cameras like a GPS dot on a map without any biometrics. This is why patrons in the MCG Express outlets are able to wear any type of face covering e.g. masks, dark glasses, etc without a problem in the checkout-free process.

A: We are committed to protecting your privacy and safeguarding your personal information. The Melbourne Cricket Club manages the MCG and the MCG Express stores powered By Amazon Just Walk Out Technology process is protected by the Club’s privacy policy which can be accessed HERE. The information collected in the MCG Express process is only used as part of the checkout-free experience.
