More than three million people visit the MCG each year. There are a variety of ways to reach the famous stadium.
Trains
There are two train stations close to the MCG.Jolimont (otherwise known as MCG Station) is north of the ground and offers a five-minute stroll through Yarra Park to the ground. From any railway station in the central business district, take the Hurstbridge or Epping lines.
The other station is Richmond on the south eastern side of the MCG. It's a slightly longer walk to the ground but you can walk past the Punt Road Oval to the Shane Warne Stand side.
To get to Richmond station from the city, take any train on the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Dandenong, Pakenham, Cranbourne, Frankston or Sandringham lines.
Trams
Three tram routes provide access to the MCG.No. 75 (City-Vermont South) travels along Flinders St and connects with the eastern suburbs via Wellington Parade.
No. 48 (Docklands/City-North Balwyn) travels along Collins Street and connects with the eastern suburbs via Wellington Parade. Both these routes stop just outside the MCG.
No. 70 (Docklands/City-Wattle Park) travels along Flinders Street then detours via Melbourne Park and the tram stop is a short walk across the footbridge to the ground.
Buses
The Bus route 246 is run by National Bus Company, which links La Trobe University with Elsternwick Station in a useful service for patrons from the northern and southern suburbs. The 246 stops in Punt Road, just a punt kick from the ground.Taxis
Taxis are available from the ground at the conclusion of each event. Otherwise the venue is a pleasant 15 minute walk from the city.Cars
Car parking is usually available at the MCG in Yarra Park on event days. This land is controlled by Melbourne Cricket Club and managed on event days by Care Park.Parking currently costs $10 per car.

Occasionally parts of Yarra Park are closed to save the grass after heavy rain. Street parking is very limited.
Accessible parking
Specific accessible parking is available in Yarra Park, subject to capacity. Vehicles must display a valid accessible parking permit.For the Shane Warne Stand and AFL Members Reserve, enter either via Punt Road (car park Gate 5 or 6) or Brunton Avenue (car park Gate 7) if you wish to obtain a parking spot as close to the designated entry gate as possible.
MCC members and public patrons heading to the Ponsford Stand, Members Pavilion or Olympic Stand should enter Yarra Park via Wellington Parade South (car park Gate 3, near Pullman Hotel).
Bus parking
Buses travelling to the MCG can utilise parking space in the Melbourne and Olympic Parks precinct.For further information and booking form, please visit the Melbourne and Olympic Parks website.
Bicycle storage
While bicycles are not permitted to enter the stadium, there are three sets of bicycle racks at the MCG, located on the external concourse:- Between Gates 3 and 4
- Near the bus turning circle on the corner of Jolimont Street and Jolimont Terrace
- At the junction of the MCG concourse and the footbridge outside Gate 1.
Please note: These facilities are not manned by security personnel and it is the responsibility of the cyclist to secure the bicycle before entering the stadium.
Pedestrian bridges
The MCG is well serviced by pedestrian bridges that provide easy access to the stadium from a number of directions.The William Barak Bridge, opened in 2006 in time for the Commonwealth Games, is a 525-metre bridge that provides walking access from Flinders Street station to the MCG. It rises from Birrarung Marr (near Federation Square) over Batman Avenue, the Jolimont Railway corridor and Brunton Avenue before descending into Yarra Park. The bridge links Melbourne’s fabulous sports and entertainment venues with the heart of the city.
The John Cain Arena (formerly Melbourne Arena) footbridge runs parallel to the Rod Laver Arena footbridge, extending from the MCG’s Gate 6 concourse over the railway corridor and descending into the Olympic Park precinct on Olympic Boulevard.
Due to redevelopment works at Melbourne Park, the Rod Laver Arena Footbridge no longer connects Olympic Boulevard with the MCG concourse. To cross the railway corridor from Olympic Boulevard, please use the John Cain Arena Footbridge.
Taxi ranks
There are three taxi ranks located near the MCG for patrons to use as a safe and efficient way to hail a taxi:- In front of Pullman Hotel, corner of Wellington Parade and Clarendon Street in East Melbourne.
- Outside Rod Laver Arena on Olympic Boulevard (previously known as Swan Street).
- Jolimont Terrace.
