The Museum is open to all members and their guests who attend MCG event days inside the Members’ Reserve.
On MCG event days, the MCC Museum will trade within the event’s operating hours, from the timing of Gate 2 opening until the close of the event. The Museum will be accessible from the Internal Concourse of Level B1 of the Members’ Reserve.The MCC Museum forms an integral part of the Australian Sports Museum experience on non-MCG event days, where ticket purchasers will be able to access the MCC Museum from within the Australian Sports Museum.
ABOUT THE MCC MUSEUM
The Melbourne Cricket Club Museum – a world-class facility that showcases the rich history of the Club and the ground it manages – has been located on Level B1 of the Members’ Pavilion since 2006.There are over 700 objects on display in the museum, including over 150 that have never been exhibited in this space. Some of these are in a showcase dedicated to objects used in the design of the stadium, the maintenance of the ground, and the changing lighting methods. There are also many examples of art inspired by the building and of the experiences at the ‘G.
Other key items include the ball used when Australia won its first Test on English soil, the 1960 and 1964 VFL trophies won by Melbourne Football Club, a cricket shirt worn by Warwick Armstrong in the 1920s and a large architectural model of the MCG.
A modern feature of the museum is the inclusion of two digital interactives. There are touchscreens where visitors can trace the changing architectural and functional elements of the MCG, supplemented with photographs and video. Another touchscreen describes the history of MCC membership using text, images and data visualization to describe the changing membership categories, membership statistics, and changing attitudes about membership.
