Renowned former Supreme Court judge, The Hon Frank Vincent AO QC, will be our guest speaker at the 10th annual Australia Day Luncheon in the Long Room on January 26.

Justice Vincent was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1985 and at the time of his retirement in 2009 he had been a judge of the Court of Appeal for nine years. He was deputy chair and then chair of the Victorian Adult Parole Board, a position he occupied for 17 years.

During his time as a judge, he sentenced four killers to life imprisonment with no possibility of release - Frankston serial killer Paul Denyer (who later had his sentence reduced on appeal), Russell St bomber Stan Taylor, Bega schoolgirls killer Leslie Camilleri and serial sex killer Peter Dupas.

Prior to his Supreme Court appointment, Justice Vincent represented the accused in more than 200 murder trials, a number that is unlikely to be surpassed.

He has also worked with several Aboriginal legal aid services, been a member of the Victorian Law Reform Commission, consultant to the Australian Law Reform Commission and chairman of the Victorian Criminal Bar Association. From 2001 to 2009, he served as chancellor of Victoria University.

This function has grown to become an anticipated event on our calendar, as MCC members and their guests celebrate our national day in fine style.

Tickets include a three-course meal with beer, wine and soft drinks. Bookings are now open via the club website.
