The club was saddened by the passing of former MCC cricketer and Australian Test player Lindsay Kline in October, aged 81.

The 207th Australian to wear the baggy green cap, Kline played 13 Tests between 1957 and 1961 as a slow left-arm chinaman bowler.

Affectionately known as “Spinner”, he claimed 34 wickets at an average of 22.82 including a hat-trick against South Africa in just his second Test.

Lindsay will always be remembered for facing the last ball of the first tied Test match, against the West Indies at Brisbane in the famous 1960/61 series.

He also denied the Windies for 100 minutes as Australia held on for a draw in Adelaide in the same series.

Lindsay played a total of 88 first-class matches, taking 276 wickets at 27.39.

He represented MCC for 11 seasons in Victorian District Cricket, including leading the Demons to the 1958/59 First XI flag when he claimed 7/78 in the final.

Lindsay was also an active member of the MCC Bowls Section, joining in 1997 and playing 222 Saturday Pennant games.

Fittingly, his funeral service was held at the MCG, where he will always be fondly remembered.
