Shane Warne was a Victorian icon, an Australian legend, and a king of the cricket world. He didn't just inspire a cricketing generation – he defined it.

Shane was born for the big occasion and gave us so many irreplaceable memories throughout his stellar career: the Ashes hat trick at the MCG, his 700th test wicket on Boxing Day and the famous ‘ball of the century’ in 1993 where he announced himself to the cricket world.

After earning his baggy green in 1992, he would go on to play 145 tests for Australia as well as 194 One Day Internationals, taking over 1000 wickets combined and establishing himself as the King of Spin.

This State Memorial Service will feature performances, tributes and reflections from those close to Shane, celebrating his unique charisma and honouring his immeasurable contribution to his sport and to his country.

Free tickets will be available for booking from Wednesday March 22 at 3pm via Ticketek.

Important information for attendees:

The State Memorial Service, to be held on Wednesday March 30 at the MCG, will be a fitting farewell to Mr Warne, who inspired a generation of cricketers and provided us with irreplaceable memories.

Gates open at 5.30pm AEDT, and all patrons are requested to be in their seats by 6.45pm AEDT for a 7.00pm AEDT commencement.

Attendees are requested to wear the colours of their cricket teams and a documentary entitled, Goodbye Warnie, will be played on the MCG big screens between 5.55pm and 6.45pm AEDT before official proceedings begin at 7.00pm AEDT.

The Memorial Service will be an alcohol free event with plenty of MCG food outlets open until the beginning of the service. Following the commencement of the service, all food and beverage outlets inside the MCG will close.

To ensure you are at your seat in time for the start of the Memorial, we ask that you arrive early and leave plenty of time for the entry process.

COVID-19 vaccination condition of entry:
In line with the Victorian Government health directives for this event, the MCG will only be accessible to fully vaccinated patrons. Patrons aged 18 years and over must provide proof of vaccination status and check-in upon entry to the MCG.

Before you arrive:
  • Please ensure you have your digital ticket ready prior to arriving at the MCG. If you have purchase tickets on behalf of others, you will need to forward tickets to the individuals attending within your group.

  • As patrons arrive at the Gate, they are asked to bring up their check-in confirmation and COVID-19 digital certificate to display to match day staff at the entrance gate in one of two ways:

    2. Show their COVID-19 digital certificate in the same smart wallet on their device, that houses their digital ticket from Ticketek.
  • All outlets will be cashless - so transactions will need to be made via a debit or credit card.
  • No smoking, including no vaping or e-cigarettes, are permitted inside the MCG.
