Brownlow Dinner with the Coodabeens

More than 470 members and guests ensured this year’s Brownlow Dinner with the Coodabeens was again a sell-out affair. The entertaining Coodabeen Champions were back for their 12th year with some new songs and requests for a number of old favourites!

The tradition of the randomly placed name tags on each table, where guests adopt the persona of a celebrity, was again well received by returning members and guests and met with much excitement and nervous anticipation for those attending their first Brownlow Dinner! You never know who the Coodabeens might want to speak to on the night!

Kicking off the night was “Dami Im” who got up on stage to sing the national anthem with great gusto and enthusiasm. Greg Champion was back to perform a number of hilarious songs starting with a Melbourne supporters stereo-type song about cheese boards! There were crowd favourites, “We are the members” and “Train to Montmorency” which were sung by all in the room with much passion! His footy-based parody songs were a hit, with all guests joining in to create a great atmosphere in the room.

The special Brownlow addition of ‘Coodabeens Footy Talkback’ heard from regular caller ‘Pearl from the Peninsula’ and some new callers keen to discuss all things footy with Torch McGee and Richo.

The Coodabeens spoke to “Buddy Franklin” and had their own version of the ‘mattress’ to go on his thigh! “Callum Mills” and “Tomas Bugg” shook hands and made up after their mid-season incident, and there was no love lost between Bulldogs coach “Luke Beveridge” and “Jake Stringer” after the two came face to face.

The room stopped to watch the results of Round 23 which sealed victory for Dustin Martin who took out the award and honour of becoming the 2017 Brownlow Medal winner.  A presentation of the MCC Brownlow Medal was made by last year’s winner, “Patrick Dangerfield” to our own “Dustin Martin”.
