ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia postponed to 2022

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia has been postponed to October – November 2022, with the final to be played on Sunday November 13, 2022.

The ICC Board confirmed the decision after announcing in July that the event, originally scheduled for October - November this year, would be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision followed a comprehensive contingency planning process and means that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in India will take place as scheduled in the agreed window from 17 October to 14 November 2021.

Earlier this year, the women's event was held in February and March and culminated in the Final at the MCG which was won by Australia over India in front of 86,174 spectators - a record crowd for women's sport in Australia and the second-highest crowd ever recorded for a women's sporting event globally.

Fans who had purchased tickets to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia will be refunded in full, while revised fixtures and venues for the tournament in 2022 will be announced in due course.

All teams who qualified for Australia 2020 will gain entry into the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in India.

Cricket Australia Interim CEO, Nick Hockley, said that there were positives in rescheduling the 2020 tournament to 2022.

“This decision gives Australia something to look forward to in 2022. It also gives us a good chance of safely welcoming fans into the outstanding venues across the country to enjoy watching the world’s best cricketers compete in this major global event,” he said.
