Beyond the Boundary, a retrospective documentary on the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, launches on Netflix today, detailing the 17-day tournament which culminated in the record-breaking Final held at the MCG.
Sports fans will be able to relive the excitement and emotions of the World Cup, which saw incredible victories, the emergence of new heroes, shattering injuries, records smashed and an appearance from an international pop star.86,174 spectators attended the Final between Australia and India at the ‘G, witnessing Australia defeat India by 85 runs and being treated to special performances from pop superstar Katy Perry, who performed pre and post-match.
The Final broke domestic and international records for women’s sport and international cricket, becoming the biggest crowd for a female sporting fixture in Australia, and the highest international T20 crowd worldwide.
The Final also broke records for TV viewership, with 1.2 million people tuning into the broadcast to watch the match.
The documentary reveals the views and thoughts of players, commentators and administrators throughout the highs and lows of the tournament, and features Katy Perry’s appearances at the Final.
The documentary is part of the 100% Cricket project, an ICC-led campaign to build on the successes of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and increase visibility and engagement of women’s cricket around the world.
