Listen: Leo Barry, you star!

24 September 2005.

“Leo Barry, you star,” bellowed Stephen Quartermain over the roar of the crowd – and the siren – as the Swans’ 72-year premiership drought came to a close in the 2005 AFL Grand Final.

It’s one of the most iconic marks – and calls – in football history. But Sydney’s drought-breaking premiership was more than just a moment.

In this episode of At the ‘G, host Anthony Hudson assembles a who’s who from the day: coaches Paul Roos and John Worsfold, Leo Barry, Brett Kirk, Michael O’Loughlin, Amon Buchanan, Chris Judd, Dean Cox and commentator Stephen Quartermain.

They discuss everything from the Swans’ migration to Sydney from South Melbourne, how they re-embraced their ‘Bloods’ culture, and the “forgotten moment” from the Grand Final that was arguably as big as the mark itself.

Plus, keep an eye out for part two of this look back at the Sydney vs West Coast Grand Finals of 2005 and 2006 – coming soon on At the ‘G.
