The MCG will host the Victorian Men’s Cricket Team across the Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup competitions, after Cricket Australia today released the schedule for the 2021-22 domestic summer.
The MCG will host three Marsh Sheffield Shield matches and a Marsh One-Day Cup match. Two of these Shield matches will be before Christmas with a further Shield match and One-Day Cup match to be hosted at the MCG in February after the BBL season concludes.The Victorian side finished in fifth place on the table across both competitions for the 2020-21 season, and will be looking to claim state cricket supremacy for the first time since the 2018-19.
The men’s domestic season begins on September 11, the first of six Marsh One-Day Cup matches in six days, before the opening round of the Marsh Sheffield Shield begins on September 28.
Today’s Cricket Australia announcement rounds out an unprecedented Australian summer of cricket, with 29 international fixtures including eight Test matches and 120 matches across both Big Bash Leagues also due to take place.

Cricket Victoria General Manager – Cricket Shaun Graf said preparations were well underway.
“There are a host of matches scheduled a little earlier than usual but we’re looking forward to what should be a fantastic summer of cricket,” Mr Graf said.
“Just like 2020, we’ll be ready for any challenges that might be thrown our way.
“Both our (men’s and women’s) squads spent a lot of time interstate in 2020-21 and hopefully we are able to spend more time on home soil this season and make the most of our broad ‘Big V’ fan base.”
Melbourne Cricket Club, manager of the MCG, CEO Stuart Fox said he looked forward to hosting more domestic cricket at the Ground.
“It will be fantastic to have the ‘Big V’ back at the MCG this summer and I know Victorian cricket fans and our members are looking forward to seeing their state in action,” Mr Fox said.
