The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) would like to congratulate the 47 members who were recognised in last week’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Members were recognised for their contributions in a wide range of fields, with members including former Essendon Football Club player and President, David Shaw, Chairman of the Sydney Swans Foundation, Peter Ivany, former Deputy Premier and Attorney General, Rob Hulls and former Chairman of the Victoria Racing Club, Rod Fitzroy.Former Essendon best-and-fairest and Melbourne Football Club coach, Neale Daniher, was also recognised on the day of his annual Big Freeze at the ‘G event, raising funds for his charity, Fight MND.
Daniher was named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his ‘distinguished service to people with motor neurone disease’.
Former Essendon player, Michael Long was also recognised on Queen’s Birthday, receiving the Order of Australia Medal for service to Australian Rules and the Indigenous community.
The Long Walk – Long’s foundation established in 2004 and highlighted by the Long Walk to the ‘G as the pre-cursor event to the Dreamtime at the ‘G match – has helped to aid and raise awareness to the lives and issues of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The MCC would like to congratulate all members who were recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
