With the announcement of an extension to Victoria’s circuit-breaker lockdown to contain the state’s recent COVID-19 outbreak, this year’s Stadium Stomp scheduled to take place at the MCG on Saturday June 12 has been postponed until Sunday October 17.
With the circuit-breaker lockdown extended for another seven days until Thursday June 10, the event’s organisers made the difficult decision to postpone the event in the interests of public safety and to provide certainty to participants, volunteers and suppliers.Participants who had registered for the Saturday June 12 event at the MCG will be contacted in the coming week and will automatically have their registrations moved to the new date of Sunday October 17, allowing more time to train and the added bonus of completing the course in Spring weather.
Participants who will no longer be able to attend the new date will be offered a refund in line with Stadium Stomp’s COVID-19 refund policy.
Since beginning in 2013, the annual stair climb has seen participants traverse up, down and around the seating bays of the MCG before finishing with a half-lap around the boundary line and through the players’ race.
In addition to achieving fitness goals and defeating the stairs of the MCG, Stadium Stomp participants can choose to fundraise for a charity close to their hearts. The event has been the catalyst for raising a total of over $1.3 million for various charities, including their official charity partners Black Dog Institute and Emergency Services Foundation.
