The Melbourne Cricket Club is saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Australian cricket great and MCC Honorary Cricket member, Andrew Symonds.
Symonds was an impressive international player with both bat and ball.
Making his One Day International debut in 1998, Symonds went on to play 198 ODI matches for Australia, amassing 5,088 runs including six centuries with a top score of 156. Symonds also took 133 ODI wickets, with career-best figures of 5/18.
Following his ODI debut, Symonds went on to play Test cricket for Australia, making his debut in 2004 against Sri Lanka. Symonds played 26 Tests for Australia, making 1,462 runs, including two centuries - one of which came at the MCG during the 2006 Ashes Boxing Day Test, where he made 156 runs from 220 balls. With the ball, Symonds claimed 24 Test wickets, with best figures of 3/50 which came at the MCG during the 2005 Boxing Day Test against South Africa.
Symonds also played 14 T20 International matches between 2005 and 2009, making 337 runs and taking eight wickets.
