Premiership Dee-light for Melbourne Demons

The Melbourne Cricket Club would like to congratulate the Melbourne Demons AFLW team and staff on their AFLW Season 7 win against the Brisbane Lions.

It was a come-from-behind victory for the Dees, with a strong opening term from the Lions seeing them lead by 11 at the first break.

A strong defensive effort from Melbourne during the second and fourth quarters, where Brisbane were kept scoreless, coupled with goals from Blaithin Mackin and Tayla Harris, saw the Demons just two points down at half-time, and take the lead during the third quarter.

Finishing with a nail-biting final quarter, Melbourne went on to win their inaugural AFLW premiership, 2.7 (19) to 2.3 (15).

The Melbourne Football Club is one of the MCC’s 14 Sporting Sections, sharing a close history since the inception of Australian Football in 1859. First becoming a Sporting Section in 1890 before separating 1980, the two Clubs reunited in 2009, remaining linked ever since.
