A message from MCC President Michael Happell

Dear members,

Round 1 is now complete and what a spectacular way it was to bring in the 2023 AFL Premiership Season.

On a personal front, this evening's Committee meeting marks the conclusion of my four-year term as President of the Melbourne Cricket Club. At this meeting, current Vice-President Fred Oldfield will be formally elevated to the role of President for the next four years.

The Club has and will always play a special role in my life and that of my family. My love and passion for sport and bringing the community together has been shaped by Club life.

In the video below, I chat with Anthony Hudson about the highlights and challenges of the past four years. I felt this was a good way to share with members my thoughts on the Club’s eventful journey over the last four years.

I am extremely grateful for the incredible work done by your Committee and by MCC staff under Stuart Fox’s leadership over the last four years, particularly during the challenges of the pandemic closure periods.

In the video, Anthony and I discuss these challenges, along with the many “magic moments” at the 'G over the last four years despite the COVID interruptions. We also touch on the Club’s expanding support for community sport and the improvements to both gender and inter-generational equality through the 50-Year membership changes.

Finally, thanks to you as a member of our great club for your support over the last four years.

Sincerely,

Michael Happell
President
Melbourne Cricket Club
