MCC members to represent Australia at 2024 Paris Paralympic Games

The Melbourne Cricket Club would like to wish its three members representing Australia at the 2024 Paralympic Games the best of luck in Paris.

Looking to follow on from Australia’s most successful Olympic Games to date, the Paralympic Games begin on August 28 and will run until September 8.

A total of 160 Australian athletes will compete across 17 of the 22 sports, with MCC members competing across para-athletics, para-equestrian and wheelchair rugby.

Stella Barton is one of 61 Australian athletes making their Paralympic debut in Paris.

Barton will compete in para-equestrian, with events taking place across the first week of September at Chateau de Versailles.

Wheelchair rugby player James McQuillan will also make his Paralympic debut in Paris.

After watching the Steelers compete in the Tokyo 2020 Games, McQuillan made his debut with the team 11 months later. The team would go on to win the 2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Championships and will be aiming for gold in Paris.

Following on from his individual efforts in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Matthew Clarke will represent Australia for a second time in Paris as a guide in the para-athletics. Clarke also filled this role at the Tokyo games when serving as a guide for para-athlete Jaryd Clifford.

The Paralympic Opening Ceremony will take place from 4.00am AEST on Thursday August 29. You can cheer on your fellow MCC members by watching the Games on the Nine Network.
