The MCC would like to congratulate members of its Target Shooting Section who have been selected to represent Australia at upcoming competitions around the world, including the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Established clay target shooter and current MCC Clay Target Club Committee member Terry Preston has been selected to represent Australia at the (Federation Internationale de Tir aux Armes Sportives de Chasse) Sporting World Championship to be held in Hudson, Wisconsin USA next month.Based in Paris, France, the championship is held in a different region each year and attracts the best sporting shooters from all around the world due to its status as an equivalent to the Olympics within the discipline.
Past champions include legendary shooters such as George Digweed and Richard Faulds (who won gold at the Sydney Olympics, beating MCC’s own Russell Mark). Approximately 1200 competitors will take part in the event in Hudson, WI in June.

MCC Target Shooting member Andrew (Angus) Cameron has won one of the UK’s most prestigious shooting events, the English Open.
Awarded yearly since 1921, Andrew claimed victory in the 2023 event at Bywell Shooting Ground in England to be named English Open High Gun Champion and awarded the English Open trophy.
Andrew is the first Australian to win the English Open and will return to England in June to defend his title with the aim of going back-to-back.
Meanwhile, fellow Target Shooting member James Willett will head to his third Olympic Games this year in Paris, following a fifth-placed finish in the Double Trap at Rio, and 21st-placed finish in the trap and seventh-placed finish in the Mixed Double Trap in Tokyo.
James was awarded a quote place at the Paris 2024 Olympics through the final Qualification Ranking for the Olympic Games (QROG) list as the highest-ranked athlete from the QROG not yet qualified in any event.
James will compete in the Men’s Trap and the Mixed Trap events.
