MCC congratulates Paralympic athletes

The Melbourne Cricket Club would like to congratulate the MCC members that competed in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games for their efforts in representing Australia at the highest level.

James McQuillan has featured in the Steelers first Paralympic podium in eight years in his maiden Games.

After narrowly missing a gold medal-match berth following a 52-51 loss against Japan just 24 hours earlier, the Steelers bounced back to win their first-ever bronze medal in a nail-biting exchange.

The team claimed a 50-48 victory over 2020 Paralympic champions Great Britain.

Stella Barton also made her Paralympic debut in the Championship Test Grade I, Team Test and Freestyle Test Grade I Para-Equestrian events.

Riding ‘Lord Lamarque’, family, friends and onlookers had tears in their eyes watching their final performance in the individual freestyle on Saturday in which the 25-year-old finished seventh with a score of 73.960%.

Following his own Paris Olympics campaign, MCC member Matthew Clarke acted as a guide for middle-distance runner Jaryd Clifford in the Men’s 5000m T13 event.

The pair crossed the finish line in third place, however a ruling determined that the tether between Clifford and Clarke was not held by both athletes across the line, leading to disqualification.
