MCC achieves Disability Confident Recruiter status

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is proud to announce that it has achieved Disability Confident Recruiter (DCR) status through the Australian Disability Network (ADN).

The MCC is one of only 51 organisations in Australia to have a current DCR accreditation.

This achievement marks a key milestone in the Club's commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that people with disability have equal opportunities when it comes to finding and retaining meaningful employment.

The Disability Confident Recruiter program is designed to support businesses and organisations in fostering inclusive hiring practices.

To achieve DCR status an organisation is audited against accessibility criteria across 16 sections of the recruitment process, from advertising and position descriptions to the application process and finally, onboarding. It is a comprehensive process and an opportunity to review existing processes and systems, update policies and identify gaps.

Through the program, the MCC has developed a workplace adjustment policy, created a visual story to prepare candidates for interviews at the MCG, trained all hiring managers on disability confident recruitment and rolled out bespoke accessibility and inclusion awareness training to nearly 1700 staff and volunteers.

MCC General Manager of People and Culture, Michelle Nolan, expressed the Club’s delight in achieving Disability Confident Recruiter status.

“We want to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed at the MCC and the MCG, with the Australian Disability Network’s recognition reflecting our ongoing commitment to access and inclusion," she said.

“In recent years, our members and patrons have benefited from improved accessibility initiatives such as the Sensory Friendly Space and ‘G Train mobility assistance Shuttle Service. However, the Disability Confident Recruiter status enables confidence amongst our staff members and reassurance by those candidates who go through our recruitment process.”

The MCC encourages applicants with disability to apply for a role with the Club. The recruitment process provides additional support, reasonable adjustments and alternate formats throughout.

Achieving Disability Confident Recruiter status is just one objective in the MCC’s broader Diversity and Inclusion strategy. In the last year, the MCC has introduced free venue accessibility tours first trialled before the Taylor Swift concerts, launched Relaxed Hours in the Australian Sports Museum and is continuing to offer monthly MCG Tours with an Auslan interpreter.
