MCC Foundation teams up with Proud 2 Play to champion inclusion in sport

The MCC Foundation is pleased to announce a new partnership with Proud 2 Play to support greater inclusion and participation of LGBTQIA+ people in sport.

The partnership will support the expansion and delivery of Proud 2 Play’s ‘Rainbow Ready’ program which is designed to create safe and inclusive sporting clubs and organisations for the LGBTQIA+ community.

This continues the strong relationship between the MCC and Proud 2 Play. The two worked together to deliver tailored education programs to the Club’s Sporting Sections and volunteers and have teamed up to create a ‘Pride Showcase’ celebrating the achievements of LGBTQIA + athletes in the Australian Sports Museum.

MCC Foundation Chair Christian Johnston said the organisations were aligned by a shared ambition to provide equitable access to sport.

“We are delighted to partner with Proud 2 Play and build upon what is already a strong relationship.

“Sport should be inclusive, safe, and accessible to everyone, and we’re excited to help break down barriers and change the experience that many LGBTQIA+ people have with sport.”

Proud 2 Play is an LGBTQIA+ charity that works with the sport and recreation sector to create safer spaces for the community. They work with community clubs right up to the elite level of sport, across the leisure industry, and directly with LGBTQIA+ community groups and individuals.

Proud 2 Play CEO Christine Granger said the organisation is thrilled to be entering into this partnership with the MCC Foundation.

“To have an organisation such as the MCC, who are at the heart of sport in this country, recognise the need for this work speaks volumes.

“We are excited to be able to build on the work we have and are currently undertaking with the MCC to expand our support in community clubs.”
