Past premiership heroes and current player achievements have been honoured at the 2025 MCC Cricket Presentation Dinner earlier this month.
Members of the MCC’s 1972/73, 1975/76 and 1981/82 premiership winning Premier Cricket teams were retrospectively presented with the Premiership Blazers, with the reunion between the former teammates on the night showcasing the connection fostered through the game of cricket.
The tradition of premiership-winning Premier First XI teams being presented with Club Blazers began following the 1988/89 premierships, with the decision to retrospectively award those premiership teams before this time well received among past and present players alike.
Meanwhile, successes of the season just passed – the 2024/25 season – saw new Club Champions crowned.
Ella Hayward and Wilson McGillivray were awarded the women’s and men’s awards respectively, recognised for their incredible feats during the season.
Hayward played 15 games with the MCC for the 2024/25 season, with the all-rounder making 526 runs at an average of 43.12 and an unbeaten 116* with the bat, whilst claiming 19 wickets at an average of 18.78 with the ball.
McGillivray was awarded the men’s Club Champion Award – also known as the Paul Sheahan Club Champion Trophy – following a season that saw the 25-year-old quick take a wicket in every match, finishing with 31 wickets at an average of 22.93.
The Players’ MVP were awarded to Rhiann O’Donnell and Trent Thompson – who were voted by their peers as the most valuable players for the women’s and men’s programs respectively.
Glenn Hannah took out the award for Best Club Person – with his influence, conduct and power of work as the Social Chair recognised, whilst Campbell Kellaway – videoing in from the Greek Islands – was awarded the Brian Watson Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding individual performance by an MCC player. Kellaway recorded an innings of 165* from 338 for Victoria during the Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia.
The next generation of MCC talent was also celebrated – with Darcy Collins and Farzan Chowna awarded the XXIX Club Youth Cricketer of the Year Awards. Their performances throughout the season were headlined by Collins’ 7/20 and Chowna’s 110*.
Congratulations to all award winners and those honoured at the 2024/25 awards night.
