    Metro Trains Disruptions

Buses replace trains on sections of the Alamein and Hurstbridge lines this Tuesday.

There are major works in the City Loop:
    • Flagstaff, Melbourne Central and Parliament stations are closed.
    • There are no City Loop services and trains run direct to Flinders Street or Southern Cross stations.

For further information on major works in the City Loop, visit ptv.vic.gov.au/city-loop-closure.
    • Passengers should allow extra time when travelling to and from the MCG.
    • Please be aware after the game there may be increased congestion and delays getting onto the platforms at Richmond and Jolimont stations.
    • Passengers are advised to return to where they got off the bus prior.

    Plan your journey at ptv.vic.gov.au.

West Gate Bridge Works - Major delays 90+ minutes

The Department of Transport is conducting annual maintenance works on the outbound lanes of the West Gate Bridge from 9pm Monday 26 December 2022 (Boxing Day) to 6am Wednesday 4 January 2023.  Significant delays of over 90 minutes may be expected with four of five outbound lanes closed, 24 hours a day – drivers are advised to avoid the area and detour early.

The Todd Road entry ramp to the Western Freeway will be closed during the works to provide access for work crews and emergency vehicles.

Delays can be expected across the network including:
    • the West Gate Freeway between the city and West Gate Bridge
    • the Domain Tunnel
    • the citybound lanes of the Monash Freeway
    • surrounding roads through the CBD, Dockland and Southbank
    • South Melbourne and South Yarra.

People from the west to the city and beyond, should consider taking public transport or plan their return journey in advance to avoid major delays.

    What you can do:
  • Detour early: use roads north of the CBD to avoid major delays on the West Gate freeway and on surrounding, last-minute detour routes. Refer to specific advice on how to best travel from various locations across Melbourne.
  • Look out for detour signs around the area
  • Listen to the radio for regular traffic updates
  • If you are travelling to major events in the city, particularly to New Years’ Eve activities, please consider taking public transport.
  • Follow VicRoads on social media
  • Real-time traffic conditions can be found at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au or via the VicTraffic mobile app.

  • Flashing Lights Warning

Please note, flashing lights and pyrotechnics will be used throughout this match at the MCG.
