2019-20 Highlights from the Reserve: Community partners forge ahead

The MCC Foundation is passionate about providing support to community activities and programs that actively encourage participation, promotion and development of sport. The Foundation is proud to partner with a number of organisations, our Community Partners, whose values align with these core aims.

Our Community Partners have had a busy few months, from exclusive events at the MCG to program developments and milestones.

Find out more about some of the recent great initiatives engaged in by these partners.

Special Olympics Australia

We celebrated International Day of People with Disability at the MCG on December 3, welcoming athletes and administrators from Special Olympics Australia to the MCG for a VIP tour and skills session.

International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations-sanctioned day designed to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with a disability, whilst also celebrating their achievements and contributions.

A delegation of Special Olympics Australia athletes and administrators took part in the day at the ‘G, which included a skills session on the hallowed turf with Melbourne Football Club’s Alex Neale-Bullen.

Bachar Houli Foundation

When the final siren sounded on the 2019 AFL Premiership Grand Final, the MCG still had one game of football to host for the year – and it was for one of our Community Partners. The inaugural Jolson/ Houli Unity Cup between the Bachar Houli Academy and AJAX Football Club saw the two teams play in the under-18 match, which celebrated unity, peace and tolerance.

The Bachar Houli Academy were winners in the 40 minute match, defeating AJAX 7.7.49 to 5.6.36. Bachar Houli Academy ruckman Mutaz el Nour was named Best on Ground for the match.

Santa Teresa Project

Although the current COVID-19 situation has slowed some aspects of the project, others, including the seeding, are pressing on and showing great signs of development.

In our latest update from Santa Teresa, in early March, the first signs of grass sprouting was showing on the oval, marking a significant milestone in the Project.

The MCC Foundation continues to support and work with our community partners during the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.
